Banking Case Study # 1

Business Description:
The Worldwide Consumer Banking department of a major bank oversees the account management of all  customers maintaining foreign addresses.

Business Problem:
The bank was seeking an imaging solution to handle its needs of their  international consumer banking customers. Customer requests and correspondence  are received via mail, fax, telephone, and telex. Each incoming communication initiates a case file requiring document scanning, controls, tracking, workflow  processing, action and resolution before the case is closed and the documentation is archived. There are currently about 300,000 documents stored on  the system. The scope of business needs generated by this workflow far outstripped the capacity of the bank's existing software and hardware  environments, thereby denying the enterprise the ability to continue to provide  the high level of customer service that its clients had come to expect. The bank  was seeking to install a new system that was consistent with using up-to-date  computer architectures.

OpenDOX Solution:

OpenDOX/VB is  an application that is consistent with an MS Windows graphic presentation and  can operate through a UNIX-based system with an Informix database -- all  specifications that were consistent with the bank's architectural direction.

The bank's in-house programmers used the OpenDOX Developer's Kit to enhance  the standard OpenDOX graphic user interface to include a word processing package  for the letter generation capabilities required to service the bank's customer base.

Archival capabilities, including both magnetic and optical storage  options, are built in to the core OpenDOX product.
